Wat Arun - The Temple Of Dawn - Bangkok, Thailand

This famous Bangkok landmark is on the Thon Bun side of the Chao Phraya River, directly opposite the Grand Palace complex and easily accessible by boat from the Bangkok side.

The temple dates back to the Ayutthaya period and later was enlarged by King Rama II and King Rama III. Renovations were completed in the reign of King Rama IV. The Emerald Buddha was enshrined in this temple for a brief period before King Rama I built the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew on the Bangkok side.

Wat Pho - Wat Phra Chetuphon - Temple of the Reclining Buddha
Reclining Buddha At Wat Pho, Bangkok, Thailand

Wat Pho, or Wat Phra Chetuphon in Thai, is situated on a 20 acre compound making it the largest templeĀ  (wat) in Bangkok. The famous Reclining Buddha, constructed in 1832, is enshrined in this temple. This gold plated reclining Buddha is 46 meters long and 15 meters high.

The eyes and feet are adorned with mother-of-pearl and the soles of the feet depict 108 auspicious characteristics of the true "Buddha". The design of the Buddha is meant to illustrate the passing of Buddha into nirvana.

Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall

Located on Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue, this beautiful Throne Hall was built in the reign of King Rama V using marble for construction in the Italian Renaissance architectural style. The ceiling of the dome is highlighted by exquisite fresco paintings of important royal functions during the reigns of King Rama I up to King Rama VI of the Royal House of Chakri.
